PhD Project Title: Leaving No One Behind: Educating those most Impacted by Robotics and Artificial Intelligence

Research Group: Swarm Robotics and Education

Biography

I am a Northern Irish technologist, who became obsessed with robots and AI when researching a paper around the legalities of robots paying for my job in technology innovation. My Masters project used Machine Learning on crowdsourced data from the Nanodoc Game. Specifically around designing nanoparticles (tiny, tiny particles which can carry chemotherapy drugs directly to tumours) which is very expensive and time consuming.

Spurred on by this research, my PhD project is going to focus on education and retraining for people who could potentially have their jobs replaced by Artificial Intelligence (AI), robots or automation. I also run a social enterprise called Taught by Humans which aims to make technology education more fair and inclusive. We do so by running courses for those who can afford it and using this money to run community events for those who cannot. I'm passionate about using technology and data to create a better future for everyone.
